Why choose naturally growing produce?
Naturally growing produce contains no pesticides. Pesticides can be absorbed into fruit and vegetables and leave residues that we then eat. Some studies have shown that pesticides can decrease the efficiency of our immune system, especially in children. After all, who thought it was a good idea to grow our food with poisons?
There´s evidence that many naturally growing fruits and vegetables are more nutritious than their non-organic counterparts. On average, naturally growing samples contained higher total antioxidants and beneficial phytonutrients like polyphenols and flavonoids than conventionally raised foods.
Naturally growing food doesn’t contain preservatives to make it last longer. It might not last as long as non-organic
counterparts, but it is in a more natural form and it tastes and looks fresher while it lasts.
Organic agriculture can be good for a farmer´s economic health. Many small family farmers do well in an agricultural economy otherwise dominated by giant factory farms.
Our soil, rivers, drinking water and air also benefit from organic agriculture, because organic practices don´t contaminate them with toxic persistent chemicals.
Choosing naturally growing is better for us as eaters, but it’s also a whole lot better for the environment. Organic farming reduces pollution, saves water and uses less energy.
The next time you buy naturally growing, remember that you´re not just doing yourself and your family some good, you´re doing a whole world of good!
